CJH Connections
For families to stay informed
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hi everyone!
We are well into the final months of the school year, which means that our focus shifts to "finishing strong." It has been quite some time since students and staff have completed a more traditional school year, and so this time of year requires perseverance and stamina for all. In the midst of end-of-year tasks and activities, we sincerely hope that your student is finding success in all of its forms.
The months of May and June are packed with items that allow us to finish the 21-22 school year (e.g. state testing) while preparing for next year (e.g. building a master schedule). Our school counselor team has also begun conversations with students who may need added layers of supports in earning credits (e.g. summer school options). We remain hopeful that our final 33 or 34 days of school will reflect the progress we have made this year. CJH students, along with support from staff, have done a great job rising to the high expectations we have for them, and we will continue to use this support as we work to help all students find success this school year.
Please join us in helping your child envision a great end to the year. With the support of families, I have no doubt that this year will be one that we are proud of. Please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can work together to help your child be academically successful this semester.
Whatever it takes!

State testing is here
This spring your student in grade 8 and will take the Smarter Balanced tests in math and English language arts and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).
The results from these tests will give a more accurate picture of whether students are on track to be ready for college or career. For students in grade 10, the Smarter Balanced tests can also be used as a graduation pathway.
Most students will take the tests online. Our school is scheduled to take the tests during the month of May.
For more information about the Smarter Balanced and WCAS tests, visit: https://www.k12.wa.us/student-success/testing/state-testing-overview, and click on the name of the test.

Attendance Matters
This year, CJH is making a special effort to ensure that all students fully benefit from their education by attending school regularly. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. If your child is going to be absent, it is important that you call the main office or email Mrs. March at amarch@fifeschools.com. If the absence is related to illness, it may also be necessary for you to speak with our school nurse.
Under Washington State Law, students who have three (3) unexcused absences in one month are required to meet with school staff to identify barriers and supports needed to ensure regular attendance. Students who have seven (7) unexcused absences in any month or fifteen (15) unexcused absences within the school year, schools are required to file a petition with the Juvenile court, alleging a violation of the states mandatory attendance laws (RCW 28A.225.010).
If you have questions about your child's attendance, please contact Mrs. March at amarch@fifeschools.com.
Transportation information
Buses will be running on our normal bus schedule. You can go to the transportation department's webpage on the Fife Public Schools website.
Student Drop Off: If your child gets dropped off in the morning, please know that we use the drive-through area in front of the CJH main office. Please remember to be safe and patient as students arrive at school each day.
COVID-19 UPDATES
Information and updates regarding COVID-19 are coming at a fast pace as we receive guidance from the health department and elected officials. We will use this page to share updates and resources!
